  • Landscape Designers/Landscape Architects (Senior Level)

    Landscape Designers/Landscape Architects (Senior Level)

    Full Time - Lake Forest Office

    We are seeking experienced Landscape Designers/Landscape Architects with exceptional drafting skills to join our team! 

    We are interested in pursuing highly creative, motivated, and organized individuals with several years of design experience to support our design department with the development of high-end residential projects. This is a great opportunity and unique working environment for a creative, highly motivated, outgoing individual. Enjoy an office location that is associated with a “living library” of plants in an established garden, of roughly 3 acres, to benefit in learning the nuances of plantings.

    Preference will be given to applicants with design/construction experience and extensive plant knowledge of Midwestern plants.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Landscape Architecture or its equivalent
    • Strong hand drafting and graphic ability
    • High proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Experience in site analysis
    • Excellent plant identification skills including herbaceous perennials
    • Good organizational skills and note taking abilities

  • ACCOUNTANT

    ACCOUNTANT

    Lake Forest Design/Build Landscaping firm has a position open for an individual to assist the Controller in carrying out responsibilities of the Accounting Department.

    Major Responsibilities/Activities

    • Assist the Controller as needed with the day to day, monthly and yearly duties
    • Maintain standard ledger entries and account reconciliations
    • Maintain payroll processing in Ceridian and GL
    • Maintain financials including depreciation detail in Excel for additional entities
    • Responsible for monitoring accounts receivable and for friendly client collections
    • Responsible for computing monthly progress billing and invoicing
    • Assist with review and analysis of job cost data and billing
    • Assist in supervision of clerical staff (1-2 employees)
    • Special projects as assigned

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Associates degree in accounting and relevant experience
    • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly Excel. Familiarity with formulas, pivot tables, vlookups, etc. is required
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines

  • SENIOR GARDENER

    SENIOR GARDENER

    The Senior Gardener is responsible for overseeing 2-3 maintenance crews and their clients’ properties. Maintaining the highest degree of customer satisfaction is paramount. Senior Gardeners apply horticultural knowledge and design skills in garden aftercare to ensure gardens retain their beauty in line with the vision inspired by Craig Bergmann and his design team. We desire individuals who possess the following traits:

    • Advanced horticulture knowledge and formal training
    • Extensive plant identification skills, primarily perennial and seasonal plants
    • Personable, outgoing, able to positively represent the company to others
    • Strong organization, communication, and supervisory skills
    • Minimum of 5 years of previous landscape experience
    • High degree of problem solving skills and sensibility
    • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and computer use


    Major Responsibilities/Activities

    • Develop a good working relationship with the client and be responsive to their design preferences and budget
    • Perform field inspections to ensure the quality and completeness of work performed. Identify any additional work needed, and proactively address any watering, disease or maintenance issues and coordinate any needs with lead gardener or client
    • Work with the Head Gardener in the development of realistic work plans with tasks and timeframes
    • Coordinate activities and interaction with other contractors if requested by the client
    • Work with the client to develop future garden plans and coordinate annual agreements
    • Monitor schedule, make purchases for clients, coordinate adjustments with nursery based on the availability of plant materials

  • INSTALLATION LABORER

    INSTALLATION LABORER

    The Labor staff is the base on which CBLD is built. Installation Laborers grade and prepare garden beds and install the plantings to bring garden designs to fruition. Work is seasonal. Opportunity for advancement with increased horticultural knowledge and experience.

     

    Major Responsibilities/Activities

    • Install plant material properly and in the right conditions to allow the plant to thrive
    • Layout areas according to the design planned
    • Rough grading tasks include prepping garden areas, grade, install paving, steppers
    • Transplant and install plant materials, prune and trim, water
    • Load/unload trucks, job site cleanup
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, use basic garden tools and power tools
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus
    • Additional compensation for candidates able to assist with foreman’s responsibilities possessing valid Illinois driver’s license, paperwork/computer skills, or pesticide license

    GARDEN CARE LABORER

    The Labor staff is the base on which CBLD is built. Garden Care Laborers maintain gardens to cultivate prosperous growth and sustain the design intent of the maturing landscape. Work is seasonal. Horticultural expertise is a major plus and opportunity for advancement with increased horticultural knowledge and experience.

     

    Major Responsibilities/Activities

    • Install plant material properly and in the right conditions to allow the plant to thrive
    • Prepare and install flowering container arrangements and seasonal displays
    • Transplant and install plant materials, specialty woody pruning, hedging, and watering
    • Load/unload trucks, job site cleanup
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, use basic garden tools and power tools
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus

We desire individuals who possess the following traits:

    • Advanced horticulture knowledge and/or formal training
    • Extensive plant identification skills, primarily native and perennial plants.
    • Ability to identify invasive and non-native plants and understand their phenology
    • Familiar with IPM and organic practices and implementation of such
    • Personable, outgoing, able to positively represent the company to others
    • Strong organization, communication, and supervisory skills
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and preserving native gardens and spaces.
    • High degree of problem-solving skills and sensibility
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications and computer use


    Major Responsibilities/Activities

    • Develop a good working relationship with the client and be responsive to their design preferences and budget
    • Supervise and develop staff (1-3) to work productively and provide opportunities to learn and advance
    • Perform field inspections. Identify potential additional work needed, and proactively address any watering, disease, pest, or maintenance issues and coordinate any special needs with Senior Gardener
    • Work with a Senior Gardener in the development of realistic work plans with tasks and timeframes, and maintain resulting crew schedules

    • Supervise a crew of 3-5, ensuring a productive and efficient team
    • Identify additional work needed on a site and proactively address any watering, disease or maintenance issues. Communicate any needs with Senior Gardener and/or client
    • Work with the Senior Gardener in the development of realistic work plans and maintain crew schedules
    • Monitor equipment use and maintain vehicles and equipment in good working order
