We are seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Landscape Designer to join our team. This mid-level leadership role involves collaborating on innovative designs, managing complex projects, supervising of support staff, and mentoring junior team members while maintaining the artistic integrity that defines CBLD’s brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Create and oversee sophisticated, artful landscape designs that reflect the unique vision of Craig Bergmann.
- Design Project Management: Lead multiple high-end residential and select commercial projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
- Client Collaboration: Build strong relationships with clients, interpreting their needs into custom, expressive designs.
- Mentorship & Team Leadership: Guide and mentor junior design staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative studio environment.
- Technical Expertise: Develop detailed construction documents and provide field oversight during installation phases to uphold design integrity.

Qualifications
- Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
- 7+ years of professional experience in landscape design, with a strong preference for experience in design offices, construction management, and client relations.
- Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) preferred.
- Exceptional knowledge of Midwestern native and ornamental plants and their applications.
- Deep understanding of construction methods, including masonry, hardscaping, grading, and drainage.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD preferred), hand rendering, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas persuasively to clients and team members.
- Collaborative and adaptive mindset, capable of maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with woodland and prairie restorations, historic garden restorations, and the ability to recognize architectural appropriateness.

The Human Resource/Accounting Administrator is an integral part of the administrative team. You will oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, onboarding & orientation of all new staff, benefit enrollment, personnel record management and assist with recruitment of staff. While this is primarily an administrative role, position also has routine accounting responsibilities. This position interacts with all levels of staff from laborers to executive team. Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives
- Conduct employee offboarding and prepare exit paperwork
- Review/maintain employment agreements, termination notices and other miscellaneous employee correspondence
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics including benefit questions
- Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies
- Organize annual employee performance reviews
- Maintain employee files and records in electronic (accounting and payroll systems) and paper form
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations
- Assist with safety and OSHA logs and any other required government reporting

Education/Skills

Design/Build/Maintenance Landscape firm has a position open for an individual to assist the Controller in carrying out responsibilities of the Accounting Department in Wadsworth, IL. Expanding Accounting Department with advancement opportunity to Controller position.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Assist the Controller as needed with the day to day, monthly and yearly duties
- Maintain standard ledger entries and monthly account reconciliations including inventory
- Record payroll ledger entries
- Coordinate monthly billing, assisting in invoice generation
- Completion of month end close activities
- Bank reconciliations
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable and assist in collections
- Assist with review and analysis of job cost data
- Maintain financials including depreciation detail in Excel for two real estate LLC’s
- Assist in supervision of clerical staff (2-4 employees)

Skills and Abilities

The Lead Gardener is responsible for leading a maintenance crew and overseeing several clients’ properties. Maintaining the highest degree of customer satisfaction is paramount. Lead Gardeners apply horticultural knowledge and design skills in garden aftercare to ensure gardens retain their beauty in line with the vision inspired by Craig Bergmann and his design team. We desire individuals who possess the following traits:
- Advanced horticulture knowledge and formal training
- Plant identification skills, primarily perennial and seasonal plants
- Personable, outgoing, able to positively represent the company to others
- Strong organization, communication, and supervisory skills
- Minimum of 5 years of previous landscape experience

Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Develop a good working relationship with the client and work alongside a Senior Gardener to execute client requests
- Supervise a crew of 3-5, ensuring a productive and efficient team
- Identify additional work needed on a site and proactively address any watering, disease or maintenance issues. Communicate any needs with Senior Gardener and/or client
- Work with the Senior Gardener in the development of realistic work plans and maintain crew schedules
- Monitor equipment use and maintain vehicles and equipment in good working order

The Labor staff is the base on which CBLD is built. Garden Care Laborers maintain gardens to cultivate prosperous growth and sustain the design intent of the maturing landscape. Work is seasonal. Horticultural expertise is a major plus and opportunity for advancement with increased horticultural knowledge and experience.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Install plant material properly and in the right conditions to allow the plant to thrive
- Prepare and install flowering container arrangements and seasonal displays
- Transplant and install plant materials, specialty woody pruning, hedging, and watering
- Load/unload trucks, job site cleanup
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, use basic garden tools and power tools
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus
